Farmhouse Decor: How to Get the Look

Thanks to some popular home renovation shows on television today, farmhouse decor is currently one of the most popular decorating styles.  If you are like many Americans, you spend a decent number of hours on HGTV admiring the farmhouse decor of the pros.  If you are looking to get the look in your own home, check out the article below.

Our first tip is to mix the old with the new.  Farmhouse decor incorporates vintage, rustic pieces.  This could be anything from a lamp, end table, picture frame, and more.

Next, stick to the neutrals and avoid big items or walls with bright and bold colors. Typically, a home decorated with farmhouse decor has light or white walls with accents of wood, iron, brick and more.

Lastly, get creative and paint some old furniture. The more worn out the piece can look, the better.  Many take furniture painting one step further to get the farmhouse look, and use painting, wax and sanding techniques to make the furniture look even more distressed.
